Will China keep the Korean women's volleyball team from getting the gold?

The road to securing the gold will not be easy for the South Korean women's volleyball team in the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games. The team has recently suffered a loss against China, but is still hoping to go against the competition in the finals.

The Korean women's volleyball team has initially made great progress in the matches after winning against India, Taipei and Kazakhstan. However, when it came to their game against China on Thursday (August 23), the team was defeated with a result of 3-0.

The game and the players

The game, which lasted for three sets, had a score of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-16 all in favor of China. While considerably short, the game also showed the strength of the best players in each team.

As expected, master spiker Kim Yeon Koung was a stand out  in the game, earning 50 points for the team. Park Jeong Ah and Yang Hyeo Jin's performances were also highlighted in the game after they raked in 37 and 34 points respectively.

For the Chinese team, Zhu TIng headed the pack, making 14 spikes and a total of 37 points. Yuan Xinyue and veteran player Liu Xiaotong also made significant contributions to the team's victory having earned 41 and 51 points.

Will the Korean women's volleyball team take home the gold?

The Korean team may have won the gold in the previous games, and even  won against China during the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, complacency should still be out of the cards. China seems to be stepping up their game, and spectators are still eyeing on Japan as another possible rival.

With Kim Yeong Koung in the team, Korea has a fairly  good chance of getting the gold medal.

However, at this point it's hard to make bets on which team is more likely to succeed.  After all, both teams are yet to go toe to toe against other nations, and against each other.

If the Korean women's volleyball team succeeds in taking home the gold this year, it will be a first back-to-back win for the team. Meanwhile, for China, it is likely to become the team's third chance to start another streak of wins for the future games.
